So on Matthew's birthday, Ethan had Career Day in Kindergarten. With all the craziness of that week, I had given very little thought to what we were going to do for it. We knew what he wanted to be--an Artist. I was thinking along the lines of having him go in his favorite Spiderman t-shirt and hold up one of his bazillion Marvel comic drawings that he has done (he is quite good I might add for a six year-old, I will try to track down a few and a picture or two).
He had a whole other image in his mind--the traditional artist look with the hat and the paint palete and the white coat. Of course, that meant me whipping up a quick costume at 9 p.m. Thursday night as I am trying to get out the door to pick up Robert at the airport.
But just like always, we threw it together and in Ethan's eyes it was perfect! I grabbed one of my maternity button up shirts, cut a black piece of felt for the hat and attached some black elastic, cut out a palete shape from a box lid and let him have at it with the paint colors. We grabbed some paint brushes out of the art drawer and voila! he was an Artist! Whew!
