I'll Take TWO Double Ear Infections and Some Pneumonia To Go, Please!

So, if doctor's offices had a drive through window, I think this is what it would be like. You feel pretty lame when you head to the doctor's office for the 5th or 6th time in one month. I guess that is the downside of five kids!

So here is the short version (you're hoping at least):

Amberly had a double ear infection and 2 rounds of anitbiotics to clear it up. She just finished her meds on Saturday and I am warily watching for the next cold to pop up!

Joshua started in with vomitting, high fever, and a terrible cough the weekend before last. I took him to the doctor last Monday (MLK day) and the doctor said he was "on the verge" of Pneumonia. Whatever that means. I knew nothing about Pneumonia. So he gave him a breathing treatment and some steroids.

Ethan showed up with ear pain on Friday, so I loaded all 3 kids in the car and headed over to the doctor's office late Friday afternoon in hopes of avoiding a visit to instant care over the weekend (whatever!).

Ethan had double ear infections, Amberly's ears were cleared up but still had some residual clear fluid that the doctor assures me is fine (I am sure we will be back in with something for her within the next month), and Joshua now had full blown Pneumonia! So the doctor sends me off with Rx for anti-biotics for both boys. At this point I am thinking, why didn't he give Joshua antibiotics on Monday?

Ethan got the pink bubble gum liquid (everyone's favorite). Joshua got the next step up (Augmentin) which after struggling to get him to take, Robert reminded me that we fought this medicine battle with him a year ago. He had an ear infection and we got Augmentin for it and he wouldn't take it, we tried the chewables-no dice, they stepped it up to Omincef (which is suppose to taste like strawberries) and he took it just fine.

So Saturday morning, I put a call into the on-call doctor and ask if we can change to Omnicef. No, we have to go in. I end up being late for the appointment (due to Saturday Coscto shopping among other things) and go to the wrong office, because I have never been to this doctor before. They close their office and now I am at instant care which I tried so hard to avoid.

I am beyond frustration that Joshua won't take his medicine (he is usually so easy to deal with). I am worried about him getting better, it has been over a week now and we are making no progress.

Fortunately the instant care doctor is really great, he explains Pneumonia more, gives me more options which include shots instead of oral antiobiotics. Then I tell him my idea about Omnicef and he say's "Oh great! Let's do that!" At which point I want to scream because I suggested that five hours ago and nobody listened! Not his fault of course, but still . . .

So we go home, I give the medicine to Joshua, he sucks it right up, says, "Yummy" and runs off to play. At this point I am completely and utterly spent! Not much else got done Saturday.

Okay so that wasn't a short version, I don't know if I can do a "short" version ever!

oh my Jenny friend, I am so sorry that you have had sick kids...and so many of them at that. I sure do hope that Joshua has gotten better. That is scary.
Tillie has been asking to have the "party boy" over again (Ethan). She sure did enjoy playing with him.

Adam used to get pnuemonia a lot because his lungs weren't expelling what they should because they were too weak due to the asthma. it's all connected and all very stressful. For a long time i just prayed that i could go one month without seeing the pediatrician. i think warmer weather might help. you should move down here. hee hee hee
